Maori name Tutu
Common name Toot
Botanical name Corea arborea
The tutu is a small tree that grows to a height of eight meters and can be found throughout New Zealand.
Young shoots were made into a poultice or the leaves were boiled and then applied to the affected area to treat pain due to bruising or broken limbs.
The tutu plant has been taken in small amounts to relieve dysentery.
Young Maori without tattoos used tutu berries to copy the tattoos of older men.
